CBI to question Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira in coal case today

The CBI on Monday will question Rujira Banerjee, wife of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee in the coal scam. This inquiry will be conducted from 11 am to 3 am at the CBI’s Kolkata office or Rujira’s residence. The probe agency’s action against Mamata’s family has intensified the tussle between the BJP and TMC.

Notably, the CBI has clamped down on Mamta Banerjee’s nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, his wife Rujira Narula Banerjee and Rujira’s sister Maneka Gambhir.

The CBI had sent a notice to question Rujira, to which she replied that she is ready to appear for questioning in the alleged coal smuggling case. Responding to the notice, Rujira, in a letter to CBI investigating officer Umesh Kumar, said that she would be available for the questioning at her residence between 11 am and 3 pm on Tuesday.

Rujira said that she was unaware of the reason for which she was being called for questioning and the matter of the investigation.

Earlier, the CBI had also summoned Rujira’s sister Menka Gambhir for interrogation. A CBI team, along with lady officials, officials arrived at Menka`s high-rise residential complex at Panchashyar on Monday, at around 12 noon.

On the other hand, with this action of CBI, the ruling TMC has launched an attack on the BJP. TMC has said that BJP is dreaming of winning Bengal by scaring using CBI and ED. At the same time, the BJP also retaliated and said that TMC is wrong, and that is why it is afraid of investigation. Amidst this controversy between BJP and TMC, Congress has again questioned the timing of the investigation.

“Now BJP is left with no allies. Akali and others have left so their only allies are CBI and ED. They are trying to use their allies to threaten and pressurise TMC, which is their main opponent. Whatever CBI has issued will be dealt legally. We must send out the message that we are not going to be threatened by any such effort,” said Trinamool MP Sougata Roy, reacting to the incident.
